Hamptons Architect: Do I need a Hamptons interior designer?

When I was studying architecture in the 70s there was a different school of thought when it comes to building a home than what we see now. A home was viewed holistically, designed not just for the bones and the facade, but for the life that would be lived in it. And that meant the home was going to need furniture and light fixtures and paint...it was going to need all of the amenities to make a house a home. Now, these aspects of building a home are often compartmentalized, with a separate professional coming into the project to do their specified task.

Great interior design brings harmony, function, and pleasure to the spaces within a home, working with the existing structure. If building or renovating your home, the interior design can best work in parallel with architectural planning and build. Planning for custom home furnishings and built-in furniture and storage can help make your home more comfortable and more uniquely yours.  In order to help such features fit seamlessly, it’s important to outline them during the initial design phases.

When a space is purposefully designed from the beginning to encourage communication and experiences, it can have a dramatic effect on those living within it. Colors used in a living space can also influence the way one feels. Every color can encourage a specific mood or feeling, so it is important to work with an architect experienced in color coordination, spatial relationships, lighting arrangements, and textures. If working with a separate interior design professional, you’ll want both your architect and interior specialist working together to create cohesion between structure and decor.

Like a well experienced Hamptons architect, a great interior designer will have sharp communication skills and repertoire with local vendors, craftsmen, and builders. Whether relying on a “holistic” architect to create the design plan for your interior or relying on the services of an interior design specialist, you’ll find greater enjoyment and value in your home by taking the additional care to plan out the design.
