Group for the East End 1994

This was my submission for the 1994 Annual Summer Fundraiser for the Group for the South Fork, now named the Group for the East End. This dynamic organization advocates preserving our beautiful pine barrens and waterways out east. The particular fundraising event that I got to be a part of was an auction of Garden Follies designed by local architects paired up with builders out here. My submission was titled: “GOOD NEIGHBORS MAKE GOOD FENCES.” The concept was that this sculptural piece could be placed on a joint property line placed between privet where neighbors could bring their morning coffee and sit on their bench side and have a peaceful conversation together. It was constructed of 4 X 4 clear cedar beautifully joined together by hidden fasteners. The premise of this fundraiser captures what I love about living in the Hamptons. In spite of the “rich and famous” lifestyles lived ou there, life at its heart is about coming together and caring for one another and our land. Share coffee with a friend, share sunsets on the beach with a community.
