Architects Design Birdhouses

In May of 1987, 55 architects from all over were asked to submit birdhouses to the Parrish Art Museum for a benefit auction entitled “Architects Design Birdhouses”.

My submission HOUSE for FINCH was constructed from wood, metal, canvas, and rope was one of the few designs that actually could function as a real usable birdhouse that was designed for a Finch family. It ended up in the collection of Reckson Associates and was on display at their Corporate Center in Huntington, NY.

This design was a full modern expression of enclosure, perch, and structure. It allowed a bird to perch in the soft glow of sunlight filtered through a sail-cloth awning. Many museum observers made comments to the effect that it exceeded in aesthetics and function beyond the many nonfunctional decorative pastiches displayed in the gallery.
